Modern Warfare 4 (2026), not Call of Duty 4

This guide covers Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, the Infinity Ward game releasing October 23, 2026. It is not the 2007 game Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare or the 2019 reboot. We use the full game name first and MW4 as the short name so search engines and AI answers do not mix the three releases.

The 2026 game launches on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC and Nintendo Switch 2 with Campaign, Multiplayer and DMZ. Campaign Early Access begins October 16 PT for qualifying digital editions. The July 30 Campaign first look names Losing Ground as an Early Access mission.

Latest MW4 camo update: four Pyroclast variants and Litmus

Call of Duty’s official Prestige Mastery showcase names Pyroclast, Pyroclast Verge, Pyroclast Scatter and Pyroclast Cascade. Exact Prestige milestones, unlock order and challenges have not been published. The same page confirms the nine mode-mastery assignments: Mercurial Drift, Polyatomic Reforged and Orion Reforged in Multiplayer; Chiral, Ripple Tide and Helio in DMZ; and Parallax, Damascus Reforged and Empyros in Warzone.

Litmus is separate from those 13 Mastery showcase camos. In-game completion reports identify it as a limited Beta challenge for 1,500 Operator kills before September 1 at 10 AM PT, counted as true kills rather than eliminations. Activision’s public Beta guide still labels the challenge name and requirement as classified, so Boss Services keeps that distinction clear. MW4 maps, Multiplayer and Kill Block

Modern Warfare 4 launches with 12 Core maps: Cachette, Coal, Lithium, Lotus, Mumbai, Munition, Nautical, Reactor U92, Rooftops, Sentry, Silkworm and Transit 213. The launch modes include Team Deathmatch, Domination, Hardpoint, Kill Confirmed, Free for All, Counter Attack, Inflation, Hijack, Search & Destroy, Gunfight, Gunfight 10v10, Combat Outpost, Gun Game and Drop Zone.

Kill Block is a dynamic training-facility battleground with more than 500 launch configurations. Three modular sections reconfigure its routes and sightlines each round. Its announced launch formats are Gunfight 3v3 and Gunfight 10v10, with Core-mode support planned after launch.

MW4 Beta Open Playlists and bot lobbies

The MW4 Beta included 22 of the 33 announced launch weapons across nine classes. Early Access ended August 25 at 10 AM PT. The all-platform Open Beta ran from August 28 at 10 AM PT to September 1 at 10 AM PT. The completed two-weekend experience included six Core 6v6 maps, Kill Block, the Entrenched Campaign mission, Ground War: Combat Outpost and Warzone Resurgence on Zodiac.

Infinity Ward’s updates through August 25 added Lotus, Gunfight 3v3 Kill Block and Transit 24/7; raised the minimum time-to-kill through weapon tuning; adjusted playlists, weapons and attachments; and improved spawn logic in every mode except Hardpoint. That August 25 update scheduled further Hardpoint spawn tuning for Weekend 2; this is a dated patch summary.

An Open Playlist is public matchmaking against real players; it is not a private or hosted bot lobby. Boss Services lists scheduled MW4 Bot Lobby sessions for self-play against bots. You join on your own Activision ID and play on PS5, Xbox or PC through crossplay. The Beta ended September 1 at 10 AM PT. Beta delivery is closed; the service page shows current availability for launch.

MW4 DMZ and shared weapon progression

MW4 DMZ takes place in the Hajin Exclusion Zone and shares weapon progression with Multiplayer. Confirmed systems include solo or squad deployment, Story Missions, Dynamic Operations, Side Ops, a persistent inventory, the FOB, three Trait Trees, a rotating Weapon Vendor, 3D Printer, MIA recovery, Bounties and Proximity Chat.

DMZ weapons can use five standard attachments plus one Apex Attachment, while eight-attachment weapons can be found in a deployment. The armored Aston Martin Dreadnought is confirmed at select DMZ POIs and in Warzone at launch.

Available and planned MW4 services

MW4 Beta services closed when the Open Beta ended September 1 at 10 AM PT. The Level 30 Beta Rewards and Litmus services are no longer on sale. Bot Lobbies are out of stock ahead of launch. The Beta Rewards service covered the eight published level rewards through Level 30 during the Beta. Max All Guns and Mastery Camo Unlocks remain planned for launch and will use the final in-game requirements instead of estimates.

Max All Guns means fully progressing every eligible launch weapon so its standard attachments and any applicable Apex progression are available. Activision has confirmed 33 launch weapons, named 22 in the Beta, and mapped the nine mode-mastery camos to Multiplayer, DMZ and Warzone.

Pyroclast, Pyroclast Verge, Pyroclast Scatter and Pyroclast Cascade are separate Prestige Mastery showcase camos. Litmus is a separate limited Beta challenge camo. Moonlit Pearl and Gilded Ruin are promotional Universal Weapon Camos. None of those seven replace the nine Multiplayer, DMZ and Warzone mastery camos.
