How do you unlock the Spectre?

The Spectre unlocks at Level 41 in Call of Duty: Black Ops. It is a 30-round automatic SMG that combines a readable sight picture with a broad attachment menu. It handles common close and short-medium routes without the severe magazine limit of the 20-round guns, but Level 41 makes it a late unlock in each rank climb. Buying it costs 2,000 CoD Points after the unlock condition is met. It accepts all 14 standard store camos plus Gold from 14th Prestige.

How does the Spectre play in Black Ops 1?

Also written asSpectre M4
RoleLate-rank versatile 30-round SMG
Real-world basisItalian Spectre M4 submachine gun
StrengthsThirty-round capacity and flexible close-to-short-medium role; Wide sight, Grip, magazine, Suppressor and Rapid Fire selection
TradeoffsLevel 41 access comes late before Prestige; It lacks the AK74u's rifle-like reach and the Uzi/MPL's extra two rounds
Attachments and setupExtended Mags, sights, Grip, Suppressor and Rapid Fire cover the standard SMG builds; Choose the attachment that solves the map's problem rather than stacking more fire rate onto an already capable automatic
Challenge noteBO1 weapon challenges are separate from camouflage. Camos are bought per eligible primary with earned CoD Points rather than unlocked through a weapon challenge.
Camo tipKeep fights inside the routes where an SMG can move and recover. At the edge of medium range, use short bursts and reposition after revealing your angle.
Compared withIt is a later, polished generalist beside the MP5K; the classified Kiparis has only 20 rounds but adds Dual Wield.

Spectre — common questions

What level does the Spectre unlock at in Black Ops 1?

The Spectre unlocks at Level 41 in Call of Duty: Black Ops multiplayer. It then costs 2,000 CoD Points. The level cap is 50, and prestige is up to 15.

How do camos work on the Spectre?

Camos here are bought, not earned: every standard camo costs 250 CoD Points per weapon once camo purchases unlock at level 22, with no challenges or headshots attached. Gold is the exception — it unlocks for purchase at 14th Prestige and costs 50,000 CoD Points per weapon. These are earned multiplayer CoD Points from BO1's economy, not the premium COD Points used in newer games. Each camo is bought per weapon, so buying one for the Spectre only unlocks it there.
