How do you unlock the MP5K?

The MP5K is available once Create-a-Class opens at Level 4 in Call of Duty: Black Ops. The MP5K's 30-round magazine and conventional full-auto behavior make it a forgiving introduction to mobile close-range classes without committing to a 20-round specialty weapon. No CoD Points purchase is required. It accepts all 14 standard store camos plus Gold from 14th Prestige.

How does the MP5K play in Black Ops 1?

RoleDefault all-purpose submachine gun
Real-world basisGerman Heckler & Koch MP5K compact submachine gun
StrengthsFree default entry to the SMG class; Thirty rounds and a broad sight, magazine and suppressor selection
TradeoffsIt has no rifle-like range advantage or unusually large magazine; Long sprays become unreliable as the target moves farther away
Attachments and setupIt supports optics, Extended Mags, Suppressor and Rapid Fire; Pick extra ammunition for repeated close fights or a Suppressor for a class built around staying off the firing radar
Challenge noteBO1 weapon challenges are separate from camouflage. Camos are bought per eligible primary with earned CoD Points rather than unlocked through a weapon challenge.
Camo tipUse movement to create short engagements, then release the trigger as soon as the target escapes the close lane. The MP5K works best when you do not ask it to act like an assault rifle.
Compared withIt is the balanced default option; the AK74u reaches farther and the MAC11 applies faster close pressure with only 20 rounds.

MP5K — common questions

What level does the MP5K unlock at in Black Ops 1?

The MP5K is available once Create-a-Class opens at Level 4 in Call of Duty: Black Ops multiplayer. No CoD Points purchase is required. The level cap is 50, and prestige is up to 15.

How do camos work on the MP5K?

Camos here are bought, not earned: every standard camo costs 250 CoD Points per weapon once camo purchases unlock at level 22, with no challenges or headshots attached. Gold is the exception — it unlocks for purchase at 14th Prestige and costs 50,000 CoD Points per weapon. These are earned multiplayer CoD Points from BO1's economy, not the premium COD Points used in newer games. Each camo is bought per weapon, so buying one for the MP5K only unlocks it there.
