How do you unlock the MPL?

The MPL unlocks at Level 35 in Call of Duty: Black Ops. It is a 32-round full-auto SMG built for flexible close- and short-medium-range play. Its capacity and attachment selection make it easier to sustain a route than the 20-round guns, but it lacks a singular burst-fire or rifle-like specialty. Buying it costs 2,000 CoD Points after the unlock condition is met. It accepts all 14 standard store camos plus Gold from 14th Prestige.

How does the MPL play in Black Ops 1?

Also written asWalther MPL
RoleStable 32-round SMG generalist
Real-world basisGerman Walther MPL submachine gun
StrengthsThirty-two rounds provide useful room for a second target; Optics, Grip, Dual Mags, Suppressor and Rapid Fire support several class plans
TradeoffsIt has no standout close-damage spike or long-range identity; Rapid Fire can spend its capacity faster than its balanced role requires
Attachments and setupDual Mags is its magazine option; sights, Grip, Suppressor and Rapid Fire are also available; Grip or Suppressor preserves the generalist role better than building around maximum firing pace
Challenge noteBO1 weapon challenges are separate from camouflage. Camos are bought per eligible primary with earned CoD Points rather than unlocked through a weapon challenge.
Camo tipPlay the MPL as a route-control SMG: move between cover, take compact bursts and use the 32 rounds to avoid reloading in the middle of a push.
Compared withIt shares the Uzi's 32-round capacity with a calmer generalist feel; the AK74u is better suited to stretching toward medium range.

MPL — common questions

What level does the MPL unlock at in Black Ops 1?

The MPL unlocks at Level 35 in Call of Duty: Black Ops multiplayer. It then costs 2,000 CoD Points. The level cap is 50, and prestige is up to 15.

How do camos work on the MPL?

Camos here are bought, not earned: every standard camo costs 250 CoD Points per weapon once camo purchases unlock at level 22, with no challenges or headshots attached. Gold is the exception — it unlocks for purchase at 14th Prestige and costs 50,000 CoD Points per weapon. These are earned multiplayer CoD Points from BO1's economy, not the premium COD Points used in newer games. Each camo is bought per weapon, so buying one for the MPL only unlocks it there.
