How does the M16 play in Advanced Warfare?

RoleReturning classic burst rifle
Real-world basisA returning depiction of the M16 rifle family
StrengthsIt returns the M16 as a three-round-burst option in the later weapon update; The M16 has a defined returning classic burst rifle purpose instead of being treated as interchangeable class filler
TradeoffsA missed opening burst creates time for a mobile opponent to boost out of the follow-up line; The M16 still depends on route choice and first-shot discipline in Advanced Warfare's fast Exo-movement fights
Build and setup guidanceUse a clear sight picture and a control or handling choice that matches the lane length; Do not stack range-oriented choices when the route is mostly inside; preserve a responsive first shot
Challenge noteThe M16 uses the ar post-patch challenge profile. Gold is a separate final challenge, then Diamond requires every camouflage challenge on this weapon. Personalization camos and Sentinel do not count.
Progression tipCamo progress is stored on the M16. It can earn its own camos and Diamond, but its Diamond is not required for Royalty. Royalty becomes available on it once the required launch weapons in its category are complete.
Camo tipPre-aim the landing point of an Exo movement rather than firing the burst at where the target started.
Compared withThe ARX-160 is the launch three-round-burst rifle; the M16 is the later classic alternative.

M16 — common questions

How do you unlock the M16 in Advanced Warfare?

The M16 was added post-launch to Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare through a later Supply Drop update. Platform availability is listed on this page. The level cap is 50, and prestige is 15 original Prestige levels followed by 15 Master Prestige ranks, ending at Grand Master Prestige.

How do you unlock camos on the M16?

Camo progress is per-weapon. Advanced Warfare has fourteen regular challenge camos followed by a separate Gold challenge on each eligible weapon. The post-patch totals vary by class and, within Specials, by MDL, Crossbow and M1 Irons. Complete every weapon challenge including Gold for Diamond; earn Diamond on the required base weapons in a category for Royalty. Heavy Shield has no camo track. M1 Irons has its own final challenge profile, and the twelve later Supply Drop weapons were released only on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Windows PC. On the M16 the final tier is Gold — 200 kills with no attachments. After that, Diamond needs every camo challenge on the weapon done. This post-launch weapon's Diamond is not required for Royalty; Royalty appears on it after every camo-eligible launch weapon required in its category is complete.
