To unlock repeat weapon purchases in MW4 DMZ, find that weapon’s Weapon Manual and successfully extract with it. Infinity Ward says Manuals are often found in military containers and safes. That is a place-to-look hint, not a guaranteed spawn. The Gunsmith opens at DMZ Player Level 10, and building weapons still uses in-game DMZ Cash.
Key takeaways
- A looted gun, a Manual unlock and weapon levels solve different problems.
- Extracting the matching Manual enables repeat purchases of that weapon in DMZ.
- Weapon leveling and attachment unlocks are shared with Multiplayer and Warzone; DMZ weapon-purchase access is separate.
- No verified fixed route, drop rate or universal fastest farming method is established here.
This guide updates our earlier FOB explanation for DMZ Early Access players. It uses the official October 9 FOB guide and Infinity Ward’s developer AMA answer, checked October 21. These are developer explanations, not a claim that Boss has tested every drop or location.
Where can you find Weapon Manuals in MW4 DMZ?
Start by checking military containers and safes. Infinity Ward identifies those as common places to find Manuals. The developer does not give a complete weapon-by-weapon location map or guaranteed drop rate in that answer.
Use that distinction when choosing a route. A container type can be worth searching without a particular building guaranteeing the Manual you need. We have not verified a specific M4, Kastov or other weapon Manual spawn, so we are not naming a best building or promising a one-run unlock.
Our planning advice: decide which weapon you want to buy, note its displayed requirement, and look for that Manual while completing an achievable deployment objective. If you find it, reconsider whether more looting is worth the extraction risk. That is a risk-management suggestion, not a measured farming strategy.
How do you unlock a weapon at the Gunsmith?
- Check your DMZ Player Level. Reach Level 10 to access the Gunsmith; this is different from the level of an individual weapon.
- Find the matching Weapon Manual. Read the item and weapon requirement rather than assuming every Manual unlocks every gun.
- Successfully extract with it. Picking it up during a deployment is not the completed unlock.
- Return to the Gunsmith. The extracted Manual enables repeat purchases of its weapon; budget DMZ Cash for the build you choose.
- Check attachment eligibility separately. An unlocked base weapon does not mean every desired attachment is already available.
The useful payoff is repeat access, not an unlimited supply of free weapons. After an extraction, check what is available before committing cash to your next build. Our MW4 DMZ beginner guide covers deployment preparation, Threat and extraction if the return trip is your main problem.
Is extracting a gun the same as extracting its Manual?
No: a weapon in your inventory and permission to purchase that weapon are different things. Do not use a gun sitting in your Stash as proof that its repeat-purchase requirement is complete. Check the Gunsmith entry for the weapon you want.
| What you have | What to check next |
|---|---|
| A looted weapon | Whether you have the Manual unlock for future purchases |
| An extracted Manual | DMZ Level 10 access and enough cash for the intended build |
| A weapon-purchase unlock | Weapon level and eligibility for the attachments you want |
| An attachment unlock | Compatibility with the weapon and its DMZ build cost |
Read this as a troubleshooting checklist, not a complete catalogue of recipes, prices or weapon exceptions. A missing attachment is a different task from a missing purchase unlock; another Manual hunt is not automatically the answer.
How do Manuals differ from 3D Printer recipes?
The Gunsmith handles weapon builds. The 3D Printer unlocks at DMZ Player Level 2 and handles gear crafting and FOB station upgrades using the required resources and ingredients. A recipe or upgrade objective is a different requirement from a weapon’s Manual.
For a FOB upgrade, read the Printer’s requirement, compare it with your stored supplies and use its material-location hints to plan what to search for. Keep the goal specific: a weapon purchase, an attachment and a base upgrade do not all need the same loot.

Do Manuals and weapon levels carry over to Multiplayer?
Weapon leveling and attachment unlocks are shared between DMZ, Multiplayer and Warzone; weapon-acquisition access is not. Infinity Ward says extracting a DMZ Manual does not unlock that weapon for Multiplayer or Warzone. Unlocking a weapon in Multiplayer also does not unlock its purchase in DMZ.
Think of two questions: “What progression have I earned on this weapon?” and “Can I obtain this weapon in this mode?” Shared progress answers the first. A DMZ Manual answers a specific purchase-access requirement in the second. Shared progression also does not mean all modes are available during Early Access.
For the wider progression systems, see our MW4 ranks, weapon progression and camos guide. Use the Boss camo tracker to organize supported camo goals; it is not a Weapon Manual inventory or an automatic in-game unlock tool.
Frequently asked questions
Is a Weapon Manual a guaranteed safe drop?
No guaranteed drop is established by the developer answer. Safes and military containers are the stated search hint, not a promise that every one contains a Manual.
Does a Manual give me every attachment?
No. Check weapon leveling and the relevant attachment unlock separately from the Manual-based weapon-purchase requirement.
Why can’t I buy a weapon I already unlocked in Multiplayer?
Multiplayer unlocks do not provide DMZ purchase access. Check the matching Manual and your Gunsmith access instead.
Where can Boss help with MW4 progression?
Start with our MW4 guide hub and check current MW4 services when you need help with a listed goal. We do not currently list a service that completes DMZ Manual extraction or Orders. Weapon-leveling, camo and lobby offers are ordering-closed in today’s catalog check; an article is not a booking confirmation.
