How do you unlock Desert?
Desert camo is a default finish for each of MW2 (2009)'s 23 camo-compatible primary weapons. It requires no headshots or Expert challenge. You can select it once Create-a-Class opens at Level 4 and the chosen weapon itself is unlocked; later rank-locked weapons remain unavailable until their listed level.

How do you make progress toward Desert?
No headshot grind is needed. Open Create-a-Class, choose a compatible primary and select Desert under Camo. If it is missing, check that Create-a-Class is open and that the weapon has reached its own rank unlock.
There is no Expert counter or XP award for Desert. Track only Create-a-Class access and the weapon's rank unlock.
