How do you unlock the FAMAS?

The FAMAS unlocks at Level 14 in Call of Duty: Black Ops. It is a 30-round automatic rifle built for quick pressure from close to medium range. Its fast firing rhythm can win a clean first engagement, but long bursts spend the magazine and magnify aim errors. Buying it costs 2,000 CoD Points after the unlock condition is met. It accepts all 14 standard store camos plus Gold from 14th Prestige.

How does the FAMAS play in Black Ops 1?

Also written asFamas
RoleFast-firing full-auto assault rifle
Real-world basisFrench FAMAS Valorisé prototype rather than the standard F1 configuration
StrengthsFast automatic follow-up for aggressive rifle play; Full assault-rifle attachment selection
TradeoffsRapid fire empties a standard magazine quickly; Long-range consistency depends on burst control rather than holding the trigger
Attachments and setupIt accepts the standard assault-rifle optics, magazines, suppressor and underbarrel options; Extended or Dual Mags address its ammunition pace without changing the weapon's core handling
Challenge noteBO1 weapon challenges are separate from camouflage. Camos are bought per eligible primary with earned CoD Points rather than unlocked through a weapon challenge.
Camo tipCommit to full auto only when the target is close enough to track. At range, release the trigger between compact bursts to preserve both ammunition and sight picture.
Compared withThe AUG is the closest 30-round full-auto counterpart; the Galil fires more deliberately and carries five extra rounds.

FAMAS — common questions

What level does the FAMAS unlock at in Black Ops 1?

The FAMAS unlocks at Level 14 in Call of Duty: Black Ops multiplayer. It then costs 2,000 CoD Points. The level cap is 50, and prestige is up to 15.

How do camos work on the FAMAS?

Camos here are bought, not earned: every standard camo costs 250 CoD Points per weapon once camo purchases unlock at level 22, with no challenges or headshots attached. Gold is the exception — it unlocks for purchase at 14th Prestige and costs 50,000 CoD Points per weapon. These are earned multiplayer CoD Points from BO1's economy, not the premium COD Points used in newer games. Each camo is bought per weapon, so buying one for the FAMAS only unlocks it there.
