How do you unlock the AUG?

The AUG unlocks at Level 26 in Call of Duty: Black Ops. It is a 30-round full-auto rifle with a role close to the FAMAS: fast follow-up fire, broad attachment access and strong medium-range flexibility. Its main distinction is its own sight picture and recoil feel rather than a different unlock system. Buying it costs 2,000 CoD Points after the unlock condition is met. It accepts all 14 standard store camos plus Gold from 14th Prestige.

How does the AUG play in Black Ops 1?

Also written asSteyr AUG
RoleFast bullpup assault-rifle generalist
Real-world basisAustrian Steyr AUG A2-style railed rifle; its ACOG model recreates the A1-style optic
StrengthsQuick automatic follow-up across common rifle distances; Swarovski-style ACOG model gives it a distinctive magnified sight option
TradeoffsFast sustained fire can pull the sight off a distant target; It shares much of its role with the earlier FAMAS
Attachments and setupIt uses the standard assault-rifle attachment family, including its distinctive ACOG presentation; Magazine upgrades are useful when its firing pace is causing frequent empty reloads
Challenge noteBO1 weapon challenges are separate from camouflage. Camos are bought per eligible primary with earned CoD Points rather than unlocked through a weapon challenge.
Camo tipChoose the AUG because its sight picture and recoil feel suit you, then use short bursts beyond medium range. Do not force a magnified optic onto close maps.
Compared withIt is the FAMAS's closest counterpart; the Galil trades some firing pace for a 35-round magazine.

AUG — common questions

What level does the AUG unlock at in Black Ops 1?

The AUG unlocks at Level 26 in Call of Duty: Black Ops multiplayer. It then costs 2,000 CoD Points. The level cap is 50, and prestige is up to 15.

How do camos work on the AUG?

Camos here are bought, not earned: every standard camo costs 250 CoD Points per weapon once camo purchases unlock at level 22, with no challenges or headshots attached. Gold is the exception — it unlocks for purchase at 14th Prestige and costs 50,000 CoD Points per weapon. These are earned multiplayer CoD Points from BO1's economy, not the premium COD Points used in newer games. Each camo is bought per weapon, so buying one for the AUG only unlocks it there.
