How do you unlock the ASP?

The ASP is available once Create-a-Class opens at Level 4 in Call of Duty: Black Ops. It is a seven-round semi-automatic backup with only Dual Wield available, so its value is quick emergency use rather than a deep attachment build. No CoD Points purchase is required. It does not take camo.

How does the ASP play in Black Ops 1?

RoleDefault seven-round minimalist sidearm
Real-world basisASP compact pistol conversion based on the Smith & Wesson Model 39
StrengthsFree default access and fast sidearm handling; Dual Wield offers a dedicated point-blank alternative
TradeoffsSeven rounds give little room for missed follow-up shots; No Suppressor, Extended Mags or sight upgrades
Attachments and setupDual Wield is the ASP's only attachment; Keep one ASP for aimed backup fire or Dual Wield only when the class is intentionally built for very close range
Challenge noteBO1 weapon challenges are separate from camouflage. Camos are bought per eligible primary with earned CoD Points rather than unlocked through a weapon challenge.
Use tipSwitch to the ASP to finish a damaged target instead of reloading an empty primary in the open. With seven rounds, reset behind cover after the emergency fight.
Compared withThe M1911 also holds seven rounds but has a broader attachment menu; the Makarov adds an eighth round.
