MW4 DMZ’s first deployment starts with a plan: read your Order, prepare at the Forward Operating Base, then head into Hajin with an objective and an extraction route. One important trap is treating a low Threat reading as safety. That indicator does not include enemy players.
Key takeaways
- DMZ has its own Player Level progression from 1 to 70.
- Read Order requirements before choosing your equipment and route.
- The Threat indicator does not account for human Operators.
- Calling an extraction helicopter is not the same as successfully leaving.

What should you check before deploying?
Start with the requirements of the DMZ Order you want to complete. The official briefing says you can review Orders at the FOB and through the Orders menu associated with the Tac-Map during a deployment. Some need more preparation than others.
Our recommendation for a first run is to choose one clear objective, then ask three questions: where do I need to go, what do I need to bring, and when will I stop pushing further? Avoid building a loadout around a destination before reading what its task actually asks you to do.

How do Orders and operations differ?
Orders are mission directives that guide progression and reward completed objectives. Dynamic Operations are activities you can select before entering Hajin or start through an Ops phone in the field. Side Ops are separate opportunities encountered around the map.
| Activity | What to check |
|---|---|
| DMZ Order | Read the exact requirement before preparing your equipment and route. |
| Dynamic Operation | Check its objective before accepting. Hunt Operators specifically sends you against a rival squad. |
| Side Op | Consider whether the detour helps your current plan. A lower-intensity activity can still lead into danger. |
Once deployed, open the Tac-Map and check Orders on its right side for your active tasks and progress. If an Order requires a specific location, its objective appears on the map and can be pinged for your squad. Agree on that destination before splitting up to loot.
Does a low Threat level mean no enemy players?
No. The official briefing explicitly excludes human Operators from the Threat indicator. Its position is below the compass, and it describes the area’s enemy-response danger. Another squad can still be nearby when that reading is low.

Use the reading as one part of a decision to continue or leave. It cannot answer whether a player is watching your route. Our practical takeaway: check the objective, the surroundings and your remaining resources together instead of using a single HUD indicator as permission to rush.
How should you use the Hajin map?
Use the official tactical map to learn where named locations sit relative to one another. It is useful orientation for an Order that names a destination. Use the current in-game map to choose an active extraction site.

Before you commit to a long detour, compare your objective with the current in-game map. The briefing says exfil sites are enabled from a pool of locations, so a static guide image cannot replace the live deployment information.
When is an extraction actually complete?
For the helicopter method described in the briefing, look for green smoke at an active exfil site. Call the aircraft, hold the area, then board to leave. Calling it alone does not finish the deployment. The publisher also warns that other squads can use exfil sites for ambushes.
Watch the HUD time-remaining display: it indicates when the radiation storm will intensify. Reassess your exit as conditions worsen instead of adding another objective by default. Getting to your destination and getting out are separate parts of the run.
What progression should you check afterward?
DMZ Player Level runs from 1 to 70. The After Action Report covers your deployment results, rating, level progress and completed Orders, whether you extract successfully or not. Use that record to check what you actually earned and what you want to attempt next.
For your next attempt, compare the Order you planned with the progress shown in the report. That gives you a more useful starting point than copying the XP total from somebody else’s example run. DMZ Player Level and weapon leveling are separate labels in the briefing.
