How do you unlock the Sledgehammer?

The Sledgehammer was added in the Halloween Scream; historical access used the period's Orders, Contracts, Collections or weapon variants in Call of Duty: WWII (2017). It fills the contact-range secondary role in the final Melee Weapons catalog. It has no ranged correction, so route timing and the final approach decide the fight. This guide stays with stable mechanics and progression instead of patch-sensitive damage or range numbers. Its camo track finishes at Copper (Earn 5 Bloodthirsty medals). Complete every camo challenge on it and Gold unlocks. Its Gold does not count toward the original Diamond requirement; both this weapon's Gold and the launch-weapon class requirement must be complete before Diamond can be equipped on it. This post-launch weapon does not increase the original Chrome requirement; its own camo challenges and the account-wide base-game mastery route must both be complete to equip Chrome.

How does the Sledgehammer play in WWII?

Rolecontact-range secondary
Real-world basisIn-game WWII-era weapon depiction; no unsupported one-to-one real-world specification is asserted.
StrengthsThe Sledgehammer has a clear contact-range secondary identity; It has no ranged correction, so route timing and the final approach decide the fight
TradeoffsThe melee strike timing still has to match the range and cover available; A poor route can erase the intended advantage of this melee weapons entry
Setup notesThis category has no ordinary firearm attachment track; build the rest of the class around safe access to its intended range; Avoid a straight approach through a watched lane because there is no ranged correction
Challenge noteComplete the nine base patterns and five class-adjusted special challenges on this weapon to earn Gold. It does not expand the original Diamond or Chrome totals; after account mastery, earn its own Gold to equip those finishes on it.
Progression tipGold is per weapon, Diamond covers every base-game weapon in a class, and Chrome covers every base-game class. Gold Leopard, Gold Cheetah and Chrome Tiger are later weapon-prestige mastery finishes with class-specific exceptions documented in the camo directory.
Camo tipUse the Sledgehammer from a route that gives its melee strike action time to complete, then move before repeating the same angle.
Compared withCompare it with the Push Dagger in the same class: both share a catalog slot, but the Sledgehammer's melee strike cadence needs its own timing.
