How do you unlock the Ripper?

The Ripper is a 32-round automatic hybrid added with the Devastation DLC. A mode switch changes it between SMG and assault-rifle configurations, letting one class respond to both compact and longer routes. Its camo track finishes at Woodland (25 kills shortly after sliding). Complete every camo challenge on it and Gold unlocks.

Reviewed July 27, 2026. Game identity, platforms and customization context were checked against Activision material. Current product and add-on availability was checked against Xbox, PlayStation and Steam listings, while weapon rosters, Squad Point costs, magazine descriptions and the class-specific camouflage matrix were cross-checked against dedicated historical references. Real-world weapon bases are qualified where the in-game model is fictional or uncertain. Setup advice is editorial and avoids unsupported damage or time-to-kill claims.

How does the Ripper play in Ghosts?

RoleToggleable SMG / assault-rifle hybrid
Real-world basisFictional modular hybrid weapon; no exact production model is verified
StrengthsThe on-demand configuration switch adapts to changing sightlines; One weapon can cover a flank and the lane beyond it
TradeoffsThe player must switch modes before the engagement rather than during panic fire; Access depends on the Devastation DLC entitlement and installation
Attachments and setup notesChoose attachments that remain useful in both configurations instead of optimizing only one; Switch to rifle mode before crossing open space and back to SMG mode before entering a tight objective
Challenge noteComplete Ripper's twelve class-specific multiplayer challenges—Snow, Brush, Autumn, Ocean, Red, Caustic, Scale, Crocodile, Green, Net, Trail and Woodland—to unlock Gold on this weapon. Clan Wars and downloadable camos are not required.
Progression tipCamo progress is stored on the Ripper itself. Read each challenge's smg requirement before building the class, because Ghosts does not use one shared objective for every gun.
Camo tipRead the next sightline early and change configuration behind cover.
Compared withThe MTAR-X has a fixed close-to-medium identity; the Ripper trades simplicity for a true selectable hybrid mode.

Ripper — common questions

How do you unlock the Ripper in Ghosts?

The Ripper comes with the Devastation DLC / Ripper Weapon Pack in Call of Duty: Ghosts — no level requirement or Unlock Token. The level cap is 60, and prestige is 10 Prestige levels in the original multiplayer progression, with the squad system linking soldiers to Prestige milestones.

How do you unlock camos on the Ripper?

Camo progress is per-weapon. The standard Ghosts ladder contains Snow, Brush, Autumn, Ocean, Red, Caustic, Scale, Crocodile, Green, Net, Trail and Woodland. The condition changes by class, so every camo page includes the exact assault-rifle, SMG, LMG, marksman, sniper, shotgun and Riot Shield matrix. Only primary firearms and the Riot Shield use the normal twelve-camo path. Handguns, launchers, the Combat Knife, Gold Combat Knife and Gold PDW do not earn those camos. On the Ripper the final tier is Woodland — 25 kills shortly after sliding. After that, Gold needs every camo challenge on the weapon done.
